Tonight! Batgirl’s series ends, The Maestro’s story begins and a Rick and Morty star almost meets and end. All That and more on this comic book edition of Multiverse Tonight

Welcome to episode 87 of Multiverse Tonight. You know originally I was supposed to be getting ready to go to the redo of this year's Planet Comicon in Kansas City, but like everything else and because we Americans can’t get our act together, here we are. Oh well, at least we can always do the home game. Hopefully we can get our act together so 2021 is much better. Anyway, let’s start the news.

DC

DC will be releasing a comic book prologue to Wonder Woman 1984 this September, the special will initially be exclusive to Walmart for the first week before being released to the general market. It will have two stories. One by Louise Simonson and Wonder Woman 84 associate producer Anna Obropta and illustrated by Bret Blevins and will see Wonder Woman deal with a hostage situation at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and the second story from Steve Pugh and Marguerite Sauvage will see a villain attempt to steal Diana’s lasso. The cover art comes from Nicola Scott. Wonder Woman 1984 number one will be released in Walmart on September 20th and will be in comic book stores on September 29th. Wonder Woman 1984 will be in theaters on October second...we hope.

DC is bringing back American Vampire for one more run. The series from Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Dave McCaig  is coming back with American Vampire 1976. Scott Snyder in a statement said quote “The characters in ‘76 are in a really dark place in terms of the fight against evil,” “The '70s mirror our current era in many ways: the anxiety, the fear, and the re-examination of American identity. The book opens on Skinner Sweet working outside of Vegas doing death-defying Evel Knievel-style stunts, trying to die. There’s a kind of Son of Sam plot in New York City with Cal and Travis, a political thriller plot with Felicia, and all sorts of '70s iconography. It’s my favorite arc so far.” unquote American Vampire 1976 No. 1 will be released digitally and in comic book stores on October 20.

The current Batgirl series will end with issue number fifty. Writer Cecil Castel lucc i confirmed the news on Twitter saying quote It's been announced that 50 is the series finale of Batgirl. Wanted to say that end has been in the works for a long time! It was planned because there were other things upcoming that didn't happen. Fiercely proud of bringing Babs to here! Meanwhile 47 out next w(ee)k!" unquote The extra sized issue will be out on October 27th and will be priced at $5.99

Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman will not be dumbed down for tv according to the best selling author who serves as writer, producer and advisor for the Netflix series. Speaking with Radio Times, Neil said quote "The joy for doing it as a Netflix series is we aren't in the place where we're throwing things out," Gaiman told the Radio Times (via Bleeding Cool). "In fact, it's the other way round. Sometimes that means that a lot more stuff gets to happen because we have room for it. But we're never throwing things out, and we're never abandoning things. And that, in itself, is a complete joy." unquote This should make any fan of the comic book series happy. No release date for the Netflix series has been announced.

Could Keanu Reeves star in a new Constantine movie? Probably not,but never say never, we are getting a new Bill and Ted movie after all. Constantine director Francis Lawrence in a recent interview with Slash Film spoke about his original plans for a sequel or if he would want to do it today, he said quote “I think we all wanted to do it. It was successful enough," Lawrence explained. "We wanted to make a responsible, more R-rated movie. By responsible, I mean we’d make a movie that wouldn’t cost quite as much as the original, which we thought was going to be PG-13. We worked on the sequel for a while. It was tricky to come up with where to take it. What I really liked about the first one was it was a really personal story, so I thought it’d be a mistake to get caught up in the supernatural gobbledygook. The idea of a personal story was really interesting, and that was the hard thing to come across."

"We have been talking about it recently," "It’s always stuck with all of us because we all love the movie, and especially realizing there’s a real cult following for this movie, it’d be fun to make. Keanu, Akiva, and I have actually talked about it." unquote That movie is now fifteen years old.

Black Adam has a new actor joining the cast. Noah Centineo will be joining as the hero Atom Smasher. Atom Smasher has previously appeared in an episode of The Flash. The film will eventually get in front of cameras, but when is up in the air right now.

DC has announced a new Watchmen Sequel called Rorschach. The twelve issue project comes from Tom King and Jorge Fornes and is set 35 years after Watchmen and sees Rorschach emerge and attempt to assassinate President Redford.

Marvel

Hulu’s Marvel series Helstrom has an official release date of October sixteenth. The show follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer, who use their powers to track down the worst of humanity."

Well we will have more time to kill until we learn of the fallout for Peter Parker in the next Spider-man movie. The third movie in the current franchise has been pushed back a little over a month to December seventeenth 2021. Will it be moved again?

Marvel is cancelling Strikeforce with August's issue number nine. Here’s the blurb for it quote "It's a death match of no-holds-barred sports entertainment - at the center of King Deadpool's Monster Island," "Strikeforce finds themselves divided between their mission to contain the dangerous Vridai and the sweet, sweet taste of competitive victory. Can this team of misfits stay together long enough to complete their mission?" unquote Originally there were to be ten issues of the comic, but the  corona virus caused it to be shortened.

The Maestro’s origin tale will finally be told. Peter David is returning to the Incredible Hulk to write how Future Imperfect’s Hulk became twisted enough to become the ruler of the world. In a statement, Mister David said quote “I had no idea that when I first created the Maestro for Future Imperfect, that he would have the kind of popularity and staying power he has now,” “Until now, I’ve only been able to allude to his origins, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to explore them in this series, and I can’t wait for fans to see all the artwork that's been coming in!” Here’s the blurb quote Almost 30 years after the landmark story Future Imperfect, legendary INCREDIBLE HULK scribe Peter David returns to the far-future version of the Hulk known as Maestro — the master of what remains of the world. With astounding art from HULK veteran Dale Keown and up-and-comer Germán Peralta, Maestro will answer questions that have haunted Hulk fans for years — and inspire some new ones. How did the world fall and the Maestro rise? What happened to the world’s heroes in between? And where is the Hulk we know and love? Find out here! Maestro number one hits shelves in August.

Marvel’s Hawkeye Series for Disney Plus has got a quiver full of directors. Bert and Bertie, the directors best known for Amazon’s Troop Zero have been tapped to helm a couple of episodes. Also directing will be Rhys Thomas, who has directed Saturday Night Live and Amazon’s Comrade Detective. Jeremy Renner will be back reprising his role of Hawkeye as he mentors a new archer Kate Bishop, Hailee Steinfeld was tapped to play Kate, but there has been no indication that a deal had been struck. Hawkeye was supposed to debut this Fall, but has been corona-dealayed.

Chris Evans truly embodies Captain America. The actor, so moved over the story of 6 year old Bridger Walker of Cheyenne Wyoming who saved his younger sister from a dog attack receiving 90 stitches for his heroic act, that the actor sent him a personal message and gifted him his own Captain America shield. He sent a video message that said quote "Pal, you're a hero, what you did was so brave, so selfless — your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you,". "Keep being the man you are, we need people like you. Hang in there, I know recovery might be tough, but based on what I've seen, I don't think there's much that can slow you down." unquote Robert Downey Junior and Tom Holland also sent messages to Bridger. Robert Downey Junior promising something even better than a shield by the boy’s next birthday and Tom Holland inviting him to the set of the third Spiderman movie to see the Spidey suit unclose
