Tonight! Wheel looks for contestants from a galaxy far far away. Strange New Worlds meets Lower Decks, A new actor takes up the mantle of Lex Luthor and much much more on this edition of Multiverse TOnight!

Let me start out this episode by commenting about the recent controversy involving Justin Roiland, co creator and voice of Rick and Morty and that is to say that I’m not going to talk about it. Justin Roiland deserves his due process and his day in court before he’s judged. So I’m not going to comment on it for now. Frankly, I think that Adult Swim was a bit hasty in cutting ties from him, they should have just waited it out, put the show on hiatus. We need to stop jumping to conclusions. SO I know what you're saying now, what about all the reporting and commenting you’ve been doing on DCEU Flash Ezra Miller. Simple, he was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. There was plenty of evidence of his loony crimes. Sex crimes, however, are a he said/she said type of thing and those are best left to a criminal court than a court of public opinion. So getting off the soap box…

Star Wars
Rolling Stone interviewed Sequel Trilogy star Daisy Ridley and she spoke up about the debate in fan circles regarding the retcon of Rey’s parentage. She said quote “What was interesting about the last one, for me, was that you can be a hero and not come from anywhere or you can be a hero and come from literally the worst person in the universe… You’re not your parents, you’re not your grandparents, you’re not your bloodline and you’re not the generations before you.” Daisy seemingly was fine with the changes made to Rey’s story, although she did mention she enjoyed the initial plan. Ridley finalized her opinion on the matter by saying “I do love the version of you can be anyone you want to be, but I also love the version where you can rectify wrongs and can’t help what you’re born into.”

Wheel of Fortune is looking for Star Wars fans for an upcoming Star Wars week
If you're interested, the show's website has all the necessary materials to get your submission in. Producers say that they're looking for someone to show why they're the "ultimate Star Wars fan" who would get this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So, if you've got a video that showcases your simultaneous knowledge of Lucasfilm's beloved movies and trivia mastery, you might want to toss your hat in the ring. Here's how Wheel describes the upcoming event!

"Are you a Star Wars super fan? In a galaxy not too far away, Star Wars is coming to Wheel of Fortune—and you're our only hope puzzle-solvers! Apply now to be a contestant during a special week of Wheel for your chance to spin and win cash, Disney vacations, and restore order (to the alphabet.)"

Star Trek
There's a Star Trek crossover on the way with a fan-favorite director at the helm, and it sounds like it will be something special. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' second season will include an episode that crosses over with Star Trek: Lower Decks. Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome will guest star, playing their Lower Decks characters, Ensigns Boimler and Mariner, in live-action for the first time. Star Trek: The Next Generation (and Star Trek: Picard) star Jonathan Frakes will direct the episode, making it the 30th episode of Star Trek that he has helmed. Despite all of that experience, the crossover episode represents something new for Frakes as it leans into comedy.

"Oh god, it's so good," Frakes tells SFX Magazine in its latest issue. "I have Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome, who are both amazing. It was such a treat for me because it is a flat-out comedy. Full on. And they're fearless over there, they take some really big swings on Strange New Worlds. They're animated at the beginning and at the end. It's a clever and simple product. It's not really Roger Rabbit because what happens is these guys come over and they're humans and you accept them as soon as they're on the Enterprise. God, the two of them have got great energy, and it freed up the acting company on Strange New Worlds to play more broadly. Anson's a wonderful comedian, very dry, but so's Rebecca. It encouraged Ethan and everyone, there were just a lot of positives that came out of them having the guts to do a full-on comedy, let alone a crossover with an animated show."

DC
Batman’s rational mind and unparalleled fighting skills are put to the ultimate test when an ancient force threatens his world and everyone he holds dear in Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham, available to purchase Digitally and on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray on March 28, 2023 from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment. The all-new, feature-length DC Animated Movie puts Batman up against Lovecraftian supernatural forces threatening the sheer existence of Gotham as he’s aided and confronted along the way by reimagined versions of his well-known allies and enemies, including Green Arrow, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, James Gordon and more.

David Giuntoli (Grimm, A Million Little Things) reprises his Batman: Soul of the Dragon role as the voice of the Dark Knight in this all-new 1920s-based DC Elseworlds tale. Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Uncharted) makes her DC animated debut as Kai Li Cain, Batman’s closest ally.

Elevating the action and drama are DC animation veterans Christopher Gorham (The Lincoln Lawyer, Insatiable) as Oliver Queen, Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul) as Harvey Dent, John DiMaggio (Futurama, Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire) as James Gordon, and David Dastmalchian (Dune, The Suicide Squad, Ant-Man) as Grendon.

Rounding out the cast is Gideon Adlon (Legion of Super-Heroes) as Oracle, Karan Brar (Jessie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise) as Sanjay “Jay” Tawde, Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, The Frighteners) as Kirk Langstrom, Darin De Paul (Mortal Kombat Legends & Overwatch franchises) as Thomas Wayne, Brian George (Seinfeld) as Alfred, Jason Marsden (Young Justice, A Goofy Movie) as Dick Grayson & Young Bruce Wayne, Navid Negahban (Homeland, The Cleaning Lady) as Ra’s al Ghul, Emily O’Brien (Days of Our Lives) as Talia al Ghul & Martha Wayne, Tim Russ (Star Trek: Voyager) as Lucius Fox, William Salyers (The Regular Show) as Cobbelpot & Professor Manfurd, and Matthew Waterson (The Croods: Family Tree) as Jason Blood/Etrigan.

Sam Liu (The Death and Return of Superman) fills the dual role of producer and co-director of Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham, working closely with co-director Christopher Berkeley (Young Justice) to bring to animated life the script from screenwriter Jase Ricci (Teen Titans Go! and DC SuperHero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse). Producers are Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham by Gaslight) and Kimberly S. Moreau (Legion of Super-Heroes). Executive Producer is Michael Uslan. Sam Register is Executive Producer.

Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham will be available on March 28 to purchase Digitally from Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Vudu and more. 4K Ultra HD and Blu-Ray Discs will be available to purchase online and in-store at major retailers. Pre-order your copy now.

The Walking Dead‘s Michael Cudlitz has been tapped to play a new version of Lex Luthor in the upcoming third season of CW’s Superman & Lois. The actor confirmed the news, first reported by EW, on Twitter.

Per the official character description: Lex is “known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with. When Lex debuts this season, it’s been years since he dropped out of the public eye and he’s re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch).

Marvel
Marvel Comics will launch a new Alien series in April. The new series will be the third Alien series since Marvel took over the license in 2021 and seems to cement the pattern of relaunching the title each year. Phillip K. Johnson, who wrote the previous two Alien series, is not returning this time. Instead, Declan Shalvey takes over as writer, teaming with artist Andrea Broccardo, as revealed in Marvel's April 2023 solicitations. Each new Alien series has introduced a new set of characters and setup, though typically hewing close to the framework and tone established by Ridley Scott's original Alien movie. The synopsis for the first issue of the new series suggests the same approach:

"Scientist Batya Zahn will do just about anything to get her family off the icy moon where they've been conducting research on water conservation. But there's more than glacial springs to find in this forgotten corner of the galaxy. When they discover an extraordinary organism buried in the ice, it won't take long for tensions to heat up. What is hidden in the snow comes forth in the thaw…and no one will be welcoming this spring. A new era of Alien starts here!"

Danny Ketch’s Ghost Rider will be returning in a new five issue mini series from Howard Mackie and Javier Saltares. The May-launching five-issue limited features not only stars Johnny Blaze's successor to the Ghost Rider mantle (and as we'd later learn, Johnny's brother), the series is written by Howard Mackie, co-creator of the character along with artist Javier Saltares for a popular 1990 series smack dab in the middle of the so-called "speculator boom" of the mid-'80s to early '90s. Marvel’s blurb about the series reads:quote  "Flashback to a time when innocent blood was spilled, a Spirit of Vengeance was born, and Danny Ketch found himself transformed into the GHOST RIDER!" reads Marvel's description of the series.

"A gang war is breaking out across New York City, with Ghost Rider caught in the middle! But if it’s just rival gangs killing each other, does Ghost Rider need to get involved?""Returning to my roots – Cypress Hills, cemeteries, Ghost Rider, the penance stare – was not something I saw coming," Mackie tells Newsarama. "It was a long and hard look back…and I took to it like Ghost Rider to the penance stare. And I'm tackling the story – and more than a few new and old villainous favorites – with a vengeance!"

Jeremy Renner's snow plow accident has another update courtesy of some new police statements. CNN managed to get an inquiry about what went wrong with his snowcat plow. It seems that there might have been some sort of mechanical mishap that led to the scary scene. Basically, Renner attempted to put the emergency brake on while exiting his vehicle. After the plow began to slide, the Hawkeye star leapt into action to save his nephew from being crushed. It's all right there in the statement down below, which you can read some selections from to hear the details.

"The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake," the report read. "Although the Pistenbully had some mechanical issues, it is believed based on our mechanical inspection that the parking brake would keep the Pistenbully from moving forward. When Renner attempted to stop or divert the Pistenbully to avoid injury to (his nephew), he was pulled under the vehicle by the track and run over."

"Once he was off the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading directly toward (his nephew)," it continues. "He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully." After that, the Snowcat rolled over him and he received significant injuries. "The Pistenbully rolled over him and continued down the road. He laid on the ground and focused on his breathing while (his nephew and others) rendered aid to him until medical personnel arrived on scene."

Actress Ayo Edebiri has joined Marvel Studios Thunderbolts in a undisclosed role.Edebiri joins an ensemble that was announced during Disney’s D23 event this fall that includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. THe movie is set to come out on July 26th 2024.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is returning for another season. Adult Swim on Wednesday gave the green light for five new episodes from original creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro.
The Season 12 order comes just before the premiere of the latest feature film Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm, which arrives on HBO Max next month and premieres on Adult Swim on March 12.

Adult Siwm in a cross promtion with M. Night Shyamalan and his new movie Knock at the Cabin will be screening four new pilots on Wednesday February first. With M. NIght serving as host. Adult Swim will premiere four curious new projects as fans will then vote for their favorite. This will presumably lead to the winner potentially getting a full series order. They include Oh My God, Yes!, Yenor, Macbeth With Dinosaurs, and Wet City.

Fox has ordered two more seasons of THe Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy. The renewals guarantee Seasons 14 and 15 for “Bob’s Burgers,” the 22nd and 23rd Seasons of “Family Guy” and the record-setting 35th and 36th Seasons for “The Simpsons,” extending its standing as the longest-running scripted series in television history. “With this trio of renewals, we celebrate excellence in animation on Fox, our wonderful, long-time partnership with 20th Television and the brilliant creators and incredible voices behind these forever favorites,” said Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment’s president of scripted programming in a statement. “Three-plus decades of ‘The Simpsons,’ more than two decades of ‘Family Guy’ and over a decade of ‘Bob’s Burgers’ proves the enduring power of the animation genre on our network and the infinite fan affinity for these outrageously funny comedy classics.”
All three shows currently rank among the Top 10 comedies for the 2022-23 season with this year marking “The Simpsons’” fourth, “Family Guy’s” fifth and “Bob’s Burgers'” second consecutive season to lead the list. In addition, “Family Guy” currently holds the title as Fox’s most-streamed program on record and continues the trend this season, averaging 5.1 million P2+ viewers.

A series adaptation of the beloved Frog and Toad books is coming to Apple TV+. The streamer announced the new series Wednesday, as part of its spring kids and family slate. It’s set to premiere Friday, April 28 on Apple TV+.

The series is based on the Caldecott and Newbery Award-winning four-book series by Arnold Lobel published by HarperCollins Children’s Books.

Per Apple: Frog is a frog. Toad is a toad. They have a lot in common… but they are also very different. Frog and Toad are best friends who know that the true secret to friendship is not only enjoying the things you have in common, but embracing the things that make you different. Our differences are what makes us special, and Frog and Toad celebrate them in what makes them unique.

Voice cast includes Nat Faxon (Our Flag Means Death) and Kevin Michael Richardson (The Simpsons) as Frog and Toad, as well as appearances by Ron Funches (Trolls), Fortune Feimster (Good Fortune), Cole Escola (At Home with Amy Sedaris), Aparna Nancherla (The Great North), John Hodgman (Up Here), Yvette Nicole Brown (Disenchanted), Stephen Tobolowsky (The Goldbergs), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Selene Luna (Coco), Margaret Cho (Fire Island) and Betsy Sodaro (Duncanville).

A new Adventure Book game based on The Lord of the Rings is coming next month. Ravensburger has announced The Lord of the Rings Adventure Book game, a new cooperative board game that plays out the entire Lord of the Rings movie trilogy over a series of eight chapters. Each chapter will have different objectives and rules, with a board made up of two pages from the eponymous adventure book included in the game, with players trying to make their way through iconic scenes from the movies. Seven miniatures will be included in the game – the four Hobbits, Aragon, Gimli, and Legolas.

The Ravensburger Adventure Book line has featured various popular movies translated into a tabletop format. One novel aspect of the game is that each chapter is basically a mini-game with its own challenges and rewards. Each chapter moves relatively quickly, with chapters typically taking only 20 minutes to play through. To date, Ravensburger has released two other Adventure Book games based on The Princess Bride and The Wizard of OZ.

The Lord of the Rings Adventure Book game goes on pre-sale on January 31st and will go on sale exclusively at Target in February. The game will cost $34.99.

Sal Piro, who played a pivotal role in creating the audience participation routines that turned The Rocky Horror Picture Show into a multi-decade, world-wide phenomenon, died at his home in New York City Jan 21.

His death was announced by The Rocky Horror Picture Show Fan Club, which he founded in 1977 and served as its president until his death, becoming a major figure in creating the movie’s cult classic status.
“Sal was the de facto face of Rocky Horror fandom for decades,” the fan club said in a tweeted statement. “He will be sorely missed.”

Opening to terrible reviews in 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show soon became a staple of the midnight movie screenings at New York City’s Waverly Theater in Greenwich Village. Surprisingly, the film quickly drew the devotion of young fans, including Piro, who shouted humorous responses to much of the film’s dialogue. As the responses became more elaborate into a sort of viewing ritual, Piro helped shape a floor show of audience members playing out the movie beneath the screen.

Piro’s memoir is in the early stages of development for a screen adaptation with producers Adam Schroeder (Clueless, First Wives Club), Lou Adler (the original Rocky Horror Picture Show) and Jill Mazursky (David Crosby: Remember My Name). Writing the screenplay, based on Piro’s book, is Mark Loughlin. The movie is expected to be set around 1976, with a focus on Piro and his friend Dori Hartley, who is credited with being the first person to dress up in costume (she role-played Frank N Furter).
