Tonight tons of award news filming resumes, copyrights expire and remember actor Camden Toy. I'll learn more in this edition of Multiverse Tonight.

Thomas Townley:

Comic books, sci-fi, fantasy and more. If you're looking for a roundup of geeky news, you're in the right place. This is Multiverse Tonight, and here's our host, Thomas Townley.

Thomas Towlney:

Well, hello everyone and welcome to Episode 204, I believe, of Multiverse Tonight. This is, of course, your host, thomas Townley. And well, it's getting to be the end of December. You know it's a happy, sad time. Unfortunately for me, I get the seasonal affective disorder in December, especially when on dark days, so that's again sad time. Today has been busy. Today I had a real trigger. I look at the old rental house I have and hopefully to get some money for it. Hopefully enough that. I can pay off most of my debt. I also spoke with my mother-in-law. My car, my 2014 Ford Focus, is kaput. The transmission went out so right at a really bad time. I had like $1,000 left to pay on the loan. Luckily, my mother-in-law helped with that. God bless her. But so now I'm in the hunt for a new car. I've decided to go with an EV, namely a Chevy Bolt. So I've been looking at a brand new Bolt because you can get $7,500 back from the government for buying a new Bolt. You get $4,000 for buying a used Bolt or a used EV. So I've been kicking that around. I've been talking with my aunt-in-law about what we can do, what I should do, so it's been a month and I'm ready to get done with it. So we've got plenty of news today. But let's start off with a bit of news Award news and there's tons of award news, so we'll have more later in the show. But last night the Children and Family Emmy Awards wrapped up, which is a two-night thing, and the big winners were HBO Max's Sesame Street, disney Plus's the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Jack Black and Tony Hale, who are among the winners of the Sunday edition in Los Angeles. Now the ceremony kept a full weekend for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which hosted the Children's Family Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday as well. Now Sesame Street won four outstanding preschool series, as well as for puppetry and direction, giving it five awards across the weekend, tying with Saturday's big winner, which was Netflix's Lost Ollie. Also Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur also scored big Best in Field wins to bring their totals to four apiece. Among the winners in the voice categories, jack Black won for reprising the role of Poe in Netflix's Kung Fu Panda, the Dragon Knight, and Tony Hale won for playing Mr Benedict in the Mysterious Benedict Society from Disney Plus. Now on Saturday again, netflix's Lost Ollie was the top winner there. The live-action CGI fancy series scored five wins, including Direction, editing and Lighting, and was followed by the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Disney's Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Also multiple winners that night were Disney Plus's Baymax and Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures. So there'll be a complete list of the winners in the show notes. One that's kind of a sad win. The Muppets Mayhem on Disney Plus won for outstanding children or family viewing series and it was just given the axe. It was just told there will be no second season. You know that's a shame, of course. Who knows if the award shows had been you know a couple months ago, when the award shows normally are, if that would have saved the series or not? But you know, it is what it is. Anyway, let's go on to the Marvel News, and we begin Marvel News with the next Captain America film set to pick up filming very soon. The production had managed to get virtually all of the principal photography done before the actors and writers' strikes shut down a Hollywood for a majority of the year. Marvel Studios will be picking things back up next year. The film apparently needs to undergo extensive reshoots, enough that hired another writer, matthew Orton, to take over from the previous filmmakers. According to Deadline Orton, a writer on the studio's Moon Knight series is taking the reins of the script, writing new material that will be shot in the additional photography phase and on the Falcon and the Wren. Soldiers Malcolm Spellman and Dylan Musson wrote previous iterations of the script. It looks like Marvel won't be bringing its battle over the rights to Spider-Man Doctor Strange over into the new year. Attorneys for the company and the estate of Steve Ditko on Wednesday notified the court that they've reached an amicable settlement agreement and expect a stipulation of dismissal with prejudice to be filed in the coming weeks. This battle started back in 2021 when Marvel filed a series of lawsuits in response to copyright termination notices from Larry Lieber and the estates of Gene Cullen, steve Ditko, don Heck and Don Rico. A very long list of characters were at issue, including Iron man, captain America, black Widow, hulk and Thor. In June, all but one of these matters had been settled. The last remaining dispute was with the heirs of Ditko, who co-create Spider-Man and Doctor Strange. Now, according to that termination notice, the estate wanted to reclaim rights from comics including Amazing Fantasy, which is Spider-Man's 1962 debut, and Strange Tales, which had Doctor Strange first appearance in 1963, in addition to the art and stories themselves, the termination notice also targeted quote any character, story, element or indicea reasonably associated with the works. Unquote. So good news there all around Robert Downey Jr's Iron man will not be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, at least occurring to Kevin Feige. In an interview done with Vandy Fair about the third act of Downey's decades-long career, the president Marvel Seuss addressed the rumors that all the original Avengers would be returning in one form or another in the future MCU phase. Feige told the publication about Tony Stark's emotional final moments in Avengers Endgame quote. We are not. We are going to keep that moment and not touch that moment again. We all worked very hard for many years to get to that and we would never want to magically undo it in any way. Now it seems difficult to imagine a Marvelian nurse that does not include Downey. But before he was cast in the crucial role of Iron man, the studio was really hesitant about casting him at all, despite Feige and director John Favreau's vying for him quote. It purely came down to the Marvel board being nervous at putting all their chips in their feature films on someone who famously had those legal troubles in the past. I wasn't very good, and I'm still not great, at taking no for an answer, but I also didn't pound my chest to try to get my way. I tried to figure out ways to make it clear to other people why we should head in a direction, and that's when the idea of a screen test came up, unquote. Now, at that point, downey had already been nominated for an Oscar for Chaplain and should have been able to get the role without auditioning, but Marvel execs needed to see for themselves that he was the right person for the part, and they did. Following his Iron man casting, the Oppenheimer actor went on to be a team player with his fellow superheroes and fought for them at various points. Ahead of the first Avengers, he even used his contract negotiations to get higher pay for his co-stars quote. We used to joke to say that Robert was the head of the acting department because everyone there looked up at him. He took them all under his wing, but not in subservient sense. He just became their cheerleader, unquote quote. So in other words, we all liked Robert Downey Jr's version of the character, but let it go, folks let it go. At an event promoting the upcoming season of its what If? Series, marvel revealed it has another animated show in the works called Eyes of Wakanda. The reveal was part of a surprise sizzle reel presented by Marvel Studios head of streaming and television and animation, brad Wanderbaum. Here is the logline quote throughout Wakanda in history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium arpecs. This is their story, unquote. Now one can imagine the possibilities, especially for the Dora Milage, the elite team of warriors who serve as the all-female special forces in Wakanda. And with that let's go on to the DC Comics News. The death of Batman's parents has become something of a running joke in the superhero space, with the origin story being retold countless times in comics and other mediums, while the finer details in some of those adaptations don't necessarily stand out. A new miniseries from DC is playing to change that. Dc announced via Pop First the first details around Batman Dark Age, a new miniseries from writer Mark Russell and artist Mike Alred Speaking. Spinning off the concept of Russell and Alred's Superman Space Age miniseries, dark Age promises to recount Batman's origin amid the backdrop of real-world historical events. In Batman Dark Age you'll meet Bruce Wayne, gotham's favorite delinquent son in an origin story. Like no other Witness, the boy become a dark knight shaped by a city in turmoil as it marches toward its prophesied doom. So, against the backdrop of actual historical events, in Batman Dark Age, gotham comes alive, filled with iconic characters who you've loved and hated over the years like you've never seen them before. Now Mark Russell and Mike Alred are returning to give audiences a look at Batman as a figure in American history, fighting for justice in a world gun mad. Batman Dark Age will consist of six issues with 40 story pages in each installment. Joining Russell and Alred are colorists Laurie Alred and litterer David Sharp. The series' debut issue will launch on March 26, 2024 with covers by Alred, yannick Poquette and Frank Kwayle. Dc's premiere superhero team is about to get an unexpected remix. Dc announced the Ape Reel Special number one, that's APE-RIL, a one-shot that will be available wherever comics are sold on March 19, 2024. As the pun-filled title suggests, the issue will spotlight several Ape-themed characters from the DC universe, leading to the formation of the Jungle League. As the cover for the issue suggests, characters like Beppo the Super Monkey, detective Chimp Monkey, prince Gleek and Sam Simian slash Ape will make up this new ensemble. Ape-ril Special number one will be written by John Lehmann, joshua Falkov and Jin Yang Yang, with art by Karl Maastricht, phil Hester and Bernard Chang, in addition to a main cover by Dan Mora. The issue will have a Crisis on Infinite Earth-themed variant cover from Bernard Chang and a Banana Scent-themed variant cover by Hayden Sherman Yep. Banana smell in comics. What a world. Let's go on to the Star Trek news, and Star Trek news begins with work on Star Trek Stranger and New Worlds Season 3, underway. Davey Perez, one of Star Trek, stranger and New Worlds' executive producers, confirmed with a photo on Instagram that the prequel is back at work. Following the Hollywood Strikes, paramount Plus renewed Star Trek Stranger and New Worlds for its third season before the strike started, which brought the entire industry to a standstill. Fans remain eager to learn how the Season 2 cliffhanger ending will resolve. Now, with everyone back to work, work is resuming across the industry, including Stranger New Worlds, which films in Toronto. Earlier news reports suggest that Stranger New Worlds Season 3 will continue filming through June 2024, while Paramount Plus has not yet confirmed a release window for Star Trek Stranger New Worlds Season 3. The timing, if accurate, likely means that the new season won't debut until 2025. Paramount Plus also has not confirmed the episode count for Stranger New Worlds, but if the first two seasons are any indication, there'll still be a 10 episode season making it true to form, so you'll at least get 10 new episodes. They gotta end that big question of what happened there at the end of that episode. The Star Trek Section 31 movie is set to begin filming in January. Paramount Plus announced that it has the green light for the Section 31 movie starring Academy Award winner Michelle Yeo, who will reprise her role as Emperor Philippa Georges from Star Trek Discovery. Hollywood North Buzz reports that filming will start on January 29th and is expected to continue through the end of March. Between Star Trek Section 31, according to Paramount Plus' press release, emperor Philippa Georges joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the UNAD Federation of Plants and faces the sins of her past. Cbs Studios is producing Star Trek Section 31, with production beginning later in 2023. Right, on course. And there will be no Star Wars news today, sorry folks, but we do have plenty of geek news. Yeah, sorry that there's no real Star Wars news, folks, but it's the end of the year, so news around Christmas time kind of shuts down. Just be glad we have all this award news, but to start the geek news today we have the coming of the next batch of copyright works to go into the United States public domain. The avalanche of copyright works will enter the public domain in the United States on January 1st 2024. To begin with, mickey Mouse aka has Steamboat Willie will enter the US public domain on January 1st 2024. Keep in mind that Disney still owns the trademark to Mickey Mouse and only the version of Mickey as portrayed in Steamboat Willie will be put into the public domain. So tread very cautiously, folks. Disney will not allow. You know, if you even make a modern Mickey Mouse that looks like Steamboat Willie, that's still copyrighted. He has to look exactly as he does in the original piece. Also, they still own the rights to the name Mickey Mouse. You can't get your hand. You can't call your creation Mickey Mouse, that he has to be Steamboat Willie. There's a whole slew of things and that is another podcast entirely. So you know, look out there. I probably would look, you know, online for exactly what's there. Also, 2024, we'll see the US copyright protection lapse for AA Milneese, the house at Poo Corner which introduced Tigger to the 100 acre wood. Now also the groundbreaking musical play, the three penny opera, and, alongside the German version of its signature song, mac the Knife, jm Berry's play Peter Pan or the Boy who Wouldn't Grow Up. Also Public Domain Lights of New York, the first all talking full length feature film. Well, they are the Public Domain, as well as Edgar Rice Burrow's novel Tarzan, lord of the Jungle, and Wanda Gogh's Millions of Catch, which is the oldest American picture book still in print. So I have collected for you in the show notes A list of all these public domain, all the things that are into the public domain, and it is a quite sizable list. There's films, there's literature, there's music. If you wanted to sing Sunny Boy, this is your year. If you wanted to sing the big rock candy mountain, this is your year. There's a rainbow around my shoulders making whoopee. You know this is your year, so be sure to check out the show notes for a list of what's in the public domain. However, let's go on to our next story. The Lost Boys, the cult vampire film from the 1980s, is being turned into a musical. The show will feature music from the rescues and will be directed by Michael Arden, who recently brought the Tony Award-Wing revival of Parade the Broadway. Now David Hornsby, a writer on it's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Chris Hawke will handle the book. The Tony Award nominee Ethan Popp, who wrote Tina, the Tina Turner musical, will serve as musical supervisor for the production. Broadway and film actors James Carpinello, marcus Chiat and Patrick Wilson will produce a show which marks their first collaboration, and the production will be mounted under a special arrangement with Warner Brothers Theater Ventures. People are strange when you're a stranger. Women look wicked when you're alone. Yeah, I don't know. Christopher Abbott is the new Wolfman taking over the starring role in the upcoming monster movie from Blum House and Universal Pictures from Ryan Gosling. Now details on the project are being kept on the raps, but Abbott and a Golden Globe nominee who is a Golden Globe nominee for Catcher 22, will play a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator. Wolfman will be directed by Lee Wanel, who was behind the 2020 hit the Invisible man, which relaunched the Universal Monsterverse kinda and grossed 144 million at the Global Box Office, and it's dated for release on October 25th. The film is written by Wanel and Corbett Tuck and Lauren Shucker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. The project was originally announced back in 2020, with Gosling set the star In 2021, the Con France signed on to Direct, reneging with after their reclaimed collaborations on 2010's Blue Valentine, and 2020 is the place beyond the pines. The pair departed the picture together, though Gosling will remain involved as an executive producer. In other words, he put up some money. Now, while things are in the public domain, the Library of Congress has announced the 25 feature films which will be joining the National Film Registry for 2023. With titles including 12 Years a Slave, home Alone, the Nightmare Before Christmas and Terminator 2 Judgment Day. Selected films have to be more than 10 years old and are selected each year for their cultural, historic or aesthetic significance to preserve the film history of the United States. Now, the Library of Congress is not responsible for the physical preservation of the tiles selected. Many have been already preserved by copyright holders, filmmakers and other archives. For those that haven't yet been preserved, the Library's National Audiovisual Conservation Center works to make sure it will be through ventures with other archives or studios or its own preservation program. Now there is a ton of. There are a bunch of films being preserved, a lot before the 1970s Also being saved. There is 1980s Fame, 1985's Desperately Seeking Susan, which is the film of Star Madonna, again Home Alone, terminator 2, nightmare Before Christmas, apollo 13,. 2000's Bamboozled 12 Years a Slave from 2013,. And 20 Feet from Stardom from 2013. So congrats to all those movies. Greta Gerwig's Barbie, a feminist phenomenon that traces its origins to toy-source shelves, dominated nominations for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. Its 10 nods make the movie the second most nominated in the 81-year history of the show, tying it with Cap-A-R-A. Now, barbie was followed closely by Oppenheimer, which was Christopher Nolan's look at J Robert Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb, which scored eight nominations. Oppenheimer and Barbie were released the same weekend a rare confluence of blockbusters, inspired memes and layer of Hollywood Halloween costumes and turbocharged the box office Kinda went near the most. Now, unlike the Oscars, the Globes are the best of both film and television and steer clear of recognizing excellence in most below-the-line crafts like editing or cinematography. They also distinguish between film genres, recognizing the best comedies and musicals separately from best dramas. Thus, oppenheimer will compete for the top drama prize alongside Killers of the Flower Moon, maestro, academy of a Fall, the Zone of Interest and Past Lives and Barbie will vie for best comedy or musical with air American fiction, poor Things, may, december and the Holdovers. Also nominated was Succession, hbo's look at a Mia Mughals-warring family, which scored a leading nine nominations for its final season. Fx's the Bear and Hulu's Only Murders in the Building was the second most nominated show, with five nods apiece. In addition to Succession, the best TV drama Race Will Involve 1923, the Crown, the Diplomat, the Last of Us and the Morning Show. The Bear and Only Murders in the Building will duke it out for the best comedy with Abit, elementary, barry, jury Duty and Ted Lasso. Netflix, the producer of series and movies like Maestro, the Crown and Diplomat, scored the most nominations for any media company, with 28, followed by Warner Bros Discovery with 27. And there are some noble changes to this year's Golden Globes Each category now has six instead of five nominees, and the Golden Globes right introduced two new prizes to celebrate box office achievements and stand-up comedy performances. That means that films like Taylor Swift, the Era's Tour, john Wick, chapter 4, and Gardens of the Galaxy, volume 3 are being recognized for their ticket sales, while the likes of Trevor Noah, amy Schumer and Ricky Gervais are getting nods for their stand-up specials. Netflix's Ann Mid Good Times received an update from Seth MacFarlane and the late great Norman Lear that is moving full steam ahead. The streamer has tapped JB Smooth, yvette Nicole Brown and J Farrow to lead the voice cast of the Ann Mid in Adult Leaning series. Additionally, randall Shepherd has signed on to serve as showrunner, replacing Carl Jones in the role. The Ann Mid series follows the Evans family in the present day as they navigate today's world and contemporary social issues. As the original did, the new show will start to remind viewers that, with the love of family, everyone can keep their heads above water. Smooth and Brown will play the show's central couple of Reggie and Beverly, with Farrow taking on the role of one of their sons, jr. The original series starred Esther Rohl and John Amos as Florida and James Evans with Ralph Carter, bernadette Stanis and JJ Walker playing the children. Netflix ordered 10 episodes of the series in September of 2020, and the new showrunner was quietly brought on last year. Exact producers include the late Lear and Brett Miller of Act 3 Productions, mcfarlane and his fuzzy door banners, ericka Hughes, huggins, as well as Steve Curry's unanimous media. So in the pictures told in, where Lear's production company remains based with an overall deal, will be the studio. E3, the gaming expo that has been a staple at the Los Angeles Convention Center since 1995, is shutting its doors for good. After setting the then canceled show from last June. In recent years, big players with new ways to reach consumers directly had bailed from the confab, which was further disrupted by COVID. After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye, I said. The Entertainment Software Association on X. Esa remains focused on advocating for ESA member companies and the industry workforce who fueled positive cultural and economic impact. Every day, said the group in the Washington Post, the ESA remains focused on. So you know it's kind of sad. You know I think everyone was always into the electronic entertainment expo. You know you wanted to see what was you know, what was coming up down the pike. But with the advent of well doing it, you're doing your own presentation on. Youtube you know I can see why. That's kind of a thing of the past. More awards news. I tell you this was going to be an awards news heavy show. Barbie leads the nominations for the 29th Annual Critics' Choice Awards with 18, far distancing every other film, as the Warner Bros Living Doll dominates the list with mentions for Best Picture Director, screenplay and 5 acting nominations, including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling with 2 apiece. Now on the heels of Stella Schoing. At Monday's Golden Globe nominations, where we received 9 nominations, the Mattel Fienaum double the total with the Critics' Choice Association and left all the other contenders in the dust. Still, the other half of the Barbieheimer Dynamic Summer Duo, christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, grabbed an impressive 13 nominations the same number given the searchlight support things which both solidly are in the race for Best Picture honors from the group that has shown an uncanny ability in past years to be a strong predictor of Oscar glory. Now, just one step behind was Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, which racked up 12 nominations, continuing its impressive showing at the Critics' Awards Circuit this year. Now, in addition to the above 4 films, other Best Picture nominees are American Fiction, the Color Purple, the Holdovers, maestro, past Lives and Saltburn, and Acting nominees largely mirror those found on the Globes list, which divides contenders into drama and comedy musical categories. As the season gains hurricane force, it appears the same group of films are rising to the top and showing strength of all signs pointing to the Oscars. In other words, there's a lot of agreement. The Critics' Choice Awards, however, did give a boost to the Color Purple, with 5 overall nominations and Amazon's Saltburn neither making the Globes cut for Best Picture categories In the best surprise Critical and Cannes Darling Anandmi of a Fall and Zone of Interest, both competing for the Globes. Best Picture, drama and Foreign Film races were relegated to by CCA2, just the Best Foreign Language Film category, nailing only 4 nominations between them. Focus features the. Holdovers as particularly strong showing, with nominations in key acting categories of Director of Screenplay and Picture and securing 8 mentions on the list. And there's so much more, but one we will highlight here is the Best Animated feature. Nominated for that was the Boy in the Heron, elemental Nimona, spider-man Across the Spiderverse, teenage, mutant Ninja, turtles, mutant Mayhem and Wish. So there you go. Anyway, let's get on to the final awards. News of the day. James Cameron's Avatar, the Wavewater and Christopher Nolan's Oblinheimer lead the way for all movies, and Paramount Star Trek Picard tops the TV series and nominations revealed for the 51st Annual Saturn Awards. The Saturns, of course, which honor the best in genre entertainment across film and television, are organized by the Academy of Science Fiction, fantasy and Horror. Winners will be announced February 4th 2024 in a ceremony at the LA Merritt Burbank Airport Hotel and will stream live on Electric Now. Disney and Light. Storm's Avatar sequel scored 12 nominations overall, two more than the original Avatar got in 2010. It's up in the categories of Best Science Fiction Film, best Actor in the Film for Sam Worthington, best Actress in the Film for Zoe Zaldana, best Supporting Actor in the Film for Stephen Lang, best Younger Performer in the Film for Jack Champion, along with directing and writing nominations for Cameron and Screen Writing Partners Rick Jaffa and Ed Amanda Silver. Hoppinheimer has 11 nominations, including the Best Thriller Film, best Actor for Kili and Murphy, best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr and Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt, with Nolan up for Best Direction and Best Screenwriting Movies from Hoppinhypers. Universal scored a leading 23 nominations overall, with titles like Renfield, megan and Fast X. Permahead is 18, including 9 for Indiana Jones and the Dile of Destiny and 4 for Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1. Warner Bros Barbie this year's big, top-grossing blockbuster had 8 nominations, including Best Fancy Film, best Actress for Margot Robbie and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling, with Greta Gerwig up for Best Film Directing, in a Loaded category that includes Cameron, nolan, james Gunn for Guardians 3, james Mangold for Indiana Jones, mark Miloid for the menu and Danny and Michael Philpoh for Talk To Me. In the TV categories, the final season of Paramount Plus' Star Trek Picard leads all nominations with 7, while the Universe made Star Trek Strange New Worlds has 6,. Lucasfilm, disney's Andorre and HBO Max's the Last of Us had 5 apiece, including acting nominations for Diego Luna and Pedro Pascal respectively. Now some sad news, but not unexpected the End of the World is really coming this time. Good Omens has been renewed for the third and final season over at Amazon. Created by Neil Gaiman and based on the novel co-written by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett James, good Omens follows the friendship between the Fussy Angel and rare book dealer Azir Fail and the fast-living demon Crowley, a pair of apocalypse-fighting, millennia-long best friends, played by Michael Sheen and David Tennant respectively. Now. The first season of the series debuted back on Amazon Prime in 2019,. At the time, it was intended to be just a limited series, but the show was renewed for a second season in 2021, which is when Gaiman revealed he had hatched the idea for a sequel with Pratchett before his death in 2015. Now the second season debuted back in July has it really been that long Amid the now-ended writers and actress tricks and ended on massive cliffhanger that suggested Gaiman had planned for more. He tweeted as much. The third and final season of Good Omens will begin filming soon in Scotland. Gaiman said in a statement accompanying the press release I'm so happy finally to be able to finish the story Terry and I plotted in 1909 and in 2006,. Terry was determined that we made Good Omens for Telvigen. We could take the story all the way to the end. Season 1 was all about adverting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies and the end of the world. Season 2 was sweet and gentle, although it may have ended less joyfully than a certain angel and demon might have hoped. Now, in Season 3, we will deal once more with the end of the world. The plans for Armageddon aren't going wrong. Only Crowley and Azirphail, working together, can hope to put it right. And they aren't talking. Now Amazon MGM's CEO, head of Telgene, added quote "'Gedomans has checked every box for a clever, witty and funny comedy that not only made it a series on Prime Video, but also made goodness watchable and fun. Thanks to Neil and Terry's amiss of creativity, the final season is sure to be packed with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy'". Gaman is also working on Anazazi Boys' TV series for Amazon MGM Studios. So there you have it. Now we start some sad news. Friend star Matthew Perry's autopsy results came out and apparently died from acute effects of ketamine. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, the autopsy report also cited drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of ben benenephrine, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder, as contributing to his death. Now, ketamine is a drug used recreationally that dulls pain, causes forgetfulness, intoxication, disassociation and raffaure, but it's also increasingly used under medical supervision to treat depression, which was that application was approved by the FDA back in 2019. Now the manner of death has been ruled an accident. Perry died October 28 as home in the Pacific-Palisades area of Los Angeles at the age of 54. And finally, tonight, camden Toy, the versatile character actor famed for playing a succession of demise characters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has passed away at the age of 68. Toy died December 11 after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, according to his representatives in a press release. Often caked in under layers of makeup as well as special prosthetics, toy would be unrecognizable for most of his well-known turns on Buffy and Lair Angel playing one of the gentlemen the Prince of Lies and the demon Narl, among others, but his unmistakable physical acting would rank him a close friend, doug Jones as firm fan favorites. Toy was born on May 31, 1955 in Pittsburgh but grew up in Delmont, pennsylvania. His father was an actor and makeup artist and his interest in dramatic makeup and theater was piqued at an early age. In interviews he would say he grew up in the theater, attending summer theater classes with the Apple Hill Playhouse. Toy acted in small regional theater companies for many years before moving to New York. He was a founding member and for a period the artistic director of the Lower East Side Theater Company Toto Connada, which later closed. In the early 1990s he made his first forays in the screen acting, appearing in bit-part roles. His big break came when after his cast in Hush, the 10th episode of season 4 of Josh Whedon's seminal show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Toy, along with Doug Jones, don W Lewis and Charlie Bump Rumbly, played the gentleman in the episode ghouls, who would steal people's voices and cut out their hearts. The gentleman soon became iconic Buffy demons and are regularly sidelined by fans as the show's most frightening and creepy villains.
