Comic-Con Finds And Old Comics

But uh other than that, this past uh weekend I also went to the uh ICT Comic-Con over in Witch Stop. Yeah, it's it's small, it's yeah. You can you can see it in one day and not not return for a second. I like Comic Cons like that. I got uh Reb Brown's autograph. Uh you may know him from the MST 3K experiment, uh Space Mutiny. Uh he's all was also uh Captain America back in back in the uh late 20th century.

DCU Updates Man Of Tomorrow Wraps

Let's go on to the DC Comics News. As Principal Photography officially comes to a close, James Gunn has provided a progress update on Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel to Superman. Marking the occasional threads, Gunn reflected on the experience, quote, that's a wrap on principal photography photography for Man of Tomorrow. Truly a joyful experience, and I have immense gratitude to my cast and crew, unquote. Celebrate the final day, Gunn posted two foes from the set, a post-rap swim featuring uh Nicholas Holt, who portrays Lex Luthor, and uh after Holt jumped into the lake after the last shot. And a behind the scenes, a shot of the Crab team with Gunn riding the brain trust, except Brian, around V Village during the whole shoot. They make movies fun. They'll slate for theatrical release on July 9th, 2027. The DC Studios film stars David Cornswit, reprising his role as Clark Kent following his re his appearance in Summer Supergirl. It also features Rachel Prosignahan as Los Lane and Lars Edinger as Brainiac. Christina Hodson is attached to write the screenplay for the upcoming Batman feature, with Andy Muschetti assigned to direct. DC Studios may already be laying the groundwork for the project through its newly premiered series Lanterns, set within the shared DCU. Its CPU episode did reference Gotham City, with Kelly McDonald's character Carrie Kane noting her origins in the Dark Knight's hometown. Following the release of Supergirl this summer, James Gunn is slated to return to the uh Man of Tomorrow. And uh Warner Burr's David Zaslav recently teased that early amazing, that early footage looked amazing.

Spider-Noir Canceled Despite Praise

Let's go to the Marvel Comics news. Prime Video and MGM Plus have officially canceled these series starring Nicolas Cage in his first regular television role following its eight-episode run. The cancellation comes despite strong critical and audience acclaim. Spider Noir entered entered the upcoming MME weekend, boasting 11 nominations, the highest count for any Prime Video original this year. And the show also achieved critical success, holding a 92% critic score and 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, this was based on the Marvel comic. The series was developed for Telgen by showrunner Orin Uzo, alongside showrunner Steve Lightfoot. During the Great Depression, the story followed Ben Riley, a wary 1930s New York private investigator confronting his past following the tragic loss while serving as the city's sole superhero. Harry Bradbeard directed and executive produced the first two episodes. In addition to Uzel and Lightfoot, executive producers include Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Daddy Sood, Dan Scheer, Amy Pascal, Pauslinia Hoptopis, and Nicolas Cage himself. Now, the series debuted May 25th on the MGM Plus Linear channel before arriving on Prime Video the following day, offering viewers a choice between color and black and white presentations. Nielsen's streaming figures and the head the show logged 2.6 billion minutes of viewing across its first six weeks. Alongside among those Eminods, Spider Noir earned nominations for technical and artistic categories, as well as music and video and uh visual effects. The broader Sony Amazon deals, Spider-Noir was the debut project under Amazon's partnership with Sony Pictures TV to adapt characters from the Sony Pictures universe of Marvel characters, the library comprising over 900 Spider-Man adjacent figures. While the initial planned series, Silk Spider Society, was shown a runner Angela Kane, was ultimately canceled. Sony confirmed a second project designed under the agreement is currently in development with an announcement planned soon. Concurrently, Sony continues its cinematic Spider-Man partnership with Marvel Comics, with Marvel Studios, with uh Spider-Man Brand New Day, which grossed 900 million domestically and over not 2.3 globally. Summer Box Office Breaks Records

uh, speaking of the summer box office, it wound up hitting an all-time record with $4.76 billion, unceding 2013's previous high of $4.756 billion. Rentrek estimates that all picks this weekend will gross between $117.8 million to $118.2 million to get us there. Universal won the summer for the period of May 1st through September 7th with $1.23 billion. 48% of that came from Christopher Nolan's highest grossing movie of all time, The Odyssey. Disney was second with $1.3 billion, and Sony crossed $1 billion, 93% coming from what's bound to be the highest-grossing movie ever at the Domestic Box Office, Spider-Man Brand New Day. Was a surprisingly lovely Labor Day frame at the Domestic Box Office with a whole mix of holdovers, surprise breakouts, and a couple of nostalgia-fueled re-releases shaking up the charts. Number one this Labor Day weekend was the Odyssey, considering its impressive late summer run, pulling in $13 million, down just 9% from last week. Eight weeks in, it's still a powerhouse, now sitting at $584.7 million domestic, a remarkable hold for Universal's Mythic Adventure. Slying into second place, Spider Man, brand new day, took a steep but unexpected post-holiday drop, following 52% to $10.8 million. Even with the dip, it's already at a massive 910.5 million domestic, keeping Sony's web slinger firmly in the billion-dollar conversation. Third place went to the weekend's biggest newcomer, Paramount's Thriller by Any Means, debuting with 7.4 million, sold numbers for a mid-budget release in early September. And in fourth, Coyote vs. Acme tumbled 55% to $7.9 million, but continues to draw curiosity as one of the year's strangest studio stories. It's now at $29.6 million. Now rounding out the top five was the re-release of Disney's Cars, which garnered $6.1 million. Further down the chart, Buddy actually ticked up 5%, a rare feat this weekend, while Toy Story 5 enjoyed a 60% surge thanks to expanded screenings, pushing its domestic total to $479.6 million after 12 weeks. And for the Cinephiles, A24's on the slot opened with $1.88 million, while the re-release of Akira pulled in $1.94 million, showcasing the enduring draw of anime classics on a big screen.

Creative Arts Emmys Highlights

Meanwhile, it was a massive weekend at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles as the 78th Creative Arts Emmys rolled out more than 100 trophies across two nights. So let's go on to the Geek News. Night one was mostly variety, reality and documentary. Saturday's ceremony focused on game shows, reality programming, short-form content, and documentary nonfiction, and it delivered some standout moments. Major wins include Jeopardy, which won outstanding game show. Jimmy Kimmel won outstanding host for a game show for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. For Doc Nonfiction Series was Mr. Scorsese. Doc Nonfiction Special was My Mom Jane, a film by Mariska Hargate. Directing a Doc Nonfiction, Mariska Hargate. Reality cinematography went to The Traders. Reality host went to Alan Cumming for the Traders. Unstructured reality program went to Love on the Spectrum. Short form series, Colbert Before Air. Hosted nonfiction, Two Gene Italy. Narrator Octavia Spencer, one for Lost Women of Alaska. And yes, the Traders absolutely swept every category it touched. Riska Hargate also picked up two wins just days before hosting the Primetime Emmys. On the second night, you mostly got guest acting, limited series, and animation. Sunday ceremony shifted the spotlight to high-profile guest acting categories, limited series supporting roles, animation, and a huge slate of below the line awards. Guest acting for a drama and comedy, guest actress drama, went to Shailen Woodley for Paradise. Guest actor drama went to Ernest Harding Jr. for The Pit. Guest Award, guest actor comedy went to Rob Reiner of the Bear. Of course, that's a posthumous win. Guest actress went to was a comedy for Betty Gilpin in Widows Bay. Limited anthology supporting role went to David Harbour. Supporting actress went to Linda Cardellini. Animation Voice, outstanding animated program was won by South Park for the episode Sermon on the Mount. Character voice act voiceover performance with the Julie Andrews for Lady Whistledown in Bridgerton. The craft categories had big multiple-category winners. Those included wins for The Pit, Widows Bay, Palm Royale, DTF St. Louis, Margot's Got Money Troubles, and then a surprising twist, Spire Noir, canceled just days earlier, picked up five Emmy Awards across cinematography, sound, and visual effects. The Academy Award also honored I Love Lucy with the inaugural Legacy Award, recognizing its enduring cultural impact across generations. Pleurabus, which did pick up some Creative Arts Emmys, also walked as 18, and Beef has 16. Now from reality triumphs to dramatic guest performances, the Creative Arts Emmys showcase the full spectrum of TV talent. The Primetime Emmys arrive September 14th, and this weekend is an indication it's going to be a lively night.

Bruce Campbell Shares Prognosis

Bruce Campbell, known for his iconic role in The Evil Dead, disclosed that that his previously reported cancer diagnosis carried a prognosis of approximately five years. Speaking candidly on the Adam Carolla Show podcast, Campbell explained that he is facing a five-year deal with a specific form of cancer, though he chose not to elaborate further on the exact type, knowing that the timeframe is accurate, give or take. When Campbell first went public with his health update last March, he characterized the illness as treatable but incurable. At the time, he emphasized that he was not seeking sympathy or advice, but wanted to manage their narrative before misinformation could spread. Fear or not, he stated during the initial announcement.

HBO Harry Potter Season Two Casting

HPO has announced key additions to the season two cast of its Harry Potter series, taking a younger approach to several characters compared to the original films. Tom Riddle, young Voldemort, will be done by uh Billy Barrett, the record holder for the youngest international Emmy winner, will portray the Dark Lord's teenage self from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Now in his upper teens, Barrett's age closely aligns with the 16-year-old character in the book, in contrast to Christian Coleson, who was 23 when cast for the second film. Dobby will be played by 17-year-old Lenny Rush, which has been cast as the loyal house elf. In the original 2002 film, Dobby was a CGI character voiced by Toby Jones, who was in his mid-30s at the time. HBO has not disclosed whether the series will use animated CGI, motion capture, or prosthetics for Rush's portrayal. Jenny Weasley will be played by Bonnie Hill, who takes over the recast role of Ron's younger sister. These new cast members join Kit Harrington, who has previously announced, as Gilderoy Lockhart for season two. The and so uh there you have it, folks. Just a little more Harry Potter.

Disney Plus Drops Gargoyles Reboot

The proposed live-action reboot of Gargoyles, the animated television series from the 1990s, has been canceled at Disney Plus. Initial reports in 2023 indicated that the streamer was developing a live-action project led by Gary Doberman alongside James Wan's Atomic Monster. However, original series co-creator Greg Weisman recently confirmed in an interview with Comics Online that the live action adaptation is no longer active. That's dead, he said. I have no idea about animation, but there are no current plans for live action. Dell source close to the project subsequently confirmed to deadline.com that the project is not proceeding. Meanwhile, Sony is maintaining its cinematic partnership with Marvel Studios for the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise. The latest film achieved significant box office success.

Pokemon Wildcard Heads To Theaters

The first animated feature-length Pokemon film in years is slated for a 2027 Theatre release window. Announced during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokemon World Championships in San Francisco, Pokemon Wildcard is being developed in partnership with Japanese animation studio Cloverworks. The narrative centers on a Pokemon trading card game player and his partner, Mikayu, as they prepare to test their skills and pursue their dreams when everything is on the line. First introduced in the 2016 video game Pokemon Sun and Moon, Mikiyu is a lonely Pokemon that wears a handmade rag styled after Pikachu to gain affection. Beneath its disguise, its true form is a dark blob with two round eyes moving by dragging itself along the ground. It avoids bright sunlight in favor of dark concealed places. Since its debut, Mickeyu has appeared across numerous video games, the Pokemon, Pokemon TCG, and the anime adaptation where it was voiced by Billy Bob Thompson.

Flintstones Live Action Returns

The Flintstones returns to the big screen with a new live-action feature. Warner Brothers is working on a new live-action film adaptation of the Flintstones with Ryan Gosling and Jesse Henderson, sets produced through their OpenIvite production company, according to a report confirmed by the Hollywood Reporter. The feature is currently in early development and actively searching for a screenwriter, while specifics regarding the plot remain under wraps. The narrative is expected to center on Bam Bam Rubble, the son of Barney Rubble and a close friend to Fred Flintstone. First reported by Deadline, the movie marks the latest revival effort by the iconic Stone Age franchise. Created by Hanna Barbera back in 1960, the original series debuted on ABC and aired for six seasons. Set in prehistoric times, the show followed the lives of Fred and Wilma, their pet dinosaur Dino, and their neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble. There was a live adaptation in 1994, exproduced by Steven Spielberg, which starred John Goodman and Rick Moranus. The movie grossed 340 million worldwide and led to a 2000 prequel, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, which featured a new lead cast. There was also a planned animated sequel in 2021 called Bedrock that would have starred Elizabeth Banks as the voice of an adult Pebbles Flintstone. The project was shelved a few years later.

Hasbro Trading Cards Deal Announced

UpperDeck has announced a new partnership with Hasbro to develop trading cards and tabletop games based on major franchises, including Transformers, Power Rangers, GI Joe, Mask, and Jem and the Holograms. Building on Upper Deck's previous collaborations with companies like TC Comics, the new venture will launch with a dedicated Transformers the movie trading card set, followed by additional franchise projects scheduled to release before the end of the year.

Remembering Tim Curry

Anyway, finally tonight, uh actor Tim Curry, renowned for his iconic performance, Dr. Frankenfurder, he corset while wearing sweet transvestite from transsexual transylvania in the 1975 classic, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, passed away at the age of 80 as home in Los Angeles' Toluca Lake neighborhood this past Tuesday. His longstanding manager and friend, Marshall Horowitz, confirmed his peaceful passing, though no specific cause of death was disclosed. Curry, who earned three Tony Award nominations during his career, faced significant health complications, suffering a major stroke in 2012, and then undergoing significant brain surgery using a wheelchair in his later years. Across careers spanning five decades, Curry worked across drama, comedy, horror, and music. Beyond his definitive portrayal of Frankenfurder, he was also celebrated for playing Pennywise in the 1990 TV adaptation of It, Wadsworth the Butler in Clue, and lending his voice to numerous animated roles. His additional notable film credits include Annie, Home Alone 2, Lost in New York, Adams Family Reunion, and Scary Movie 2. Born Timothy James Curry on April 19, 1946, in Grape and Hall, Cheshire, England, he attended Prayers Court Preparatory School and Kingswood School before studying drama and English at Birmingham University from 1965 to 1968. He made his professional debut in the original 1968 London production of Hare, securing the job after embellishing his professional credits to the producers who later supported his union membership upon recognizing his talent. In 1970, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for After Hagerty, followed by various TV and stage appearances, including The Policeman and The Crook. The breakout role was the, of course, the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Curry's major breakthrough arrived in 1973 when he auditioned with Lil Richards Tootie Fruity and was cast as Dr. Frankenfurter in Ridger O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show, starring at the original Royal Courts Theater upstairs. The production became a cultural phenomenon, expanding to larger venues, eventually leading to the 1975 film adaptation produced by Lou Adler. The movie developed a massive cult following, characterized by honest participation and cosplay. Although the original 1975 Broadway run closed after just 45 years of 45 performances due to harsh critical reviews, the show went on to achieve global success. A recent Broadway revival by the roundabout theater company revived, received nine Tony nominations, reflecting on the initial Broadway setback. Curry noted that the surviving, such as such a high-profile failure, gave him the resilience to pursue future artistic endeavors without fear. Following Rocky Horror, Curry performed in Tom Stoppard's Travesties, portrayed William Shakespeare in the 1976 miniseries The Life and Times of William Shakespeare, and starred in Peter Schaefer's Amadeus as Mozart alongside Ian McKellen, which earned a Tony nomination. He also pursued a solo recording career releasing albums including Read My Lips in 1978. Throughout the 80s and 90s, Curry built an extensive career as a voice actor, gaining acclaim for performances such as Nigel Thornberry and the Wild Thornberries, and his daytime Emmy winning role as Captain Hook in Peter Pan and the Pirates. His additional voice work spanned audiobooks including Lemony Snickets, a series of unfortunate events, and video games like Red Alert 3 and Dragon Age Origins. His on-screen work continued with noble roles in Legend, The Hunt for Red October, Muppet Treasure Island, and a Tony nominated performance in My Favorite Year. Remembering Dolly Parton

Next up, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, the Tennessee-born singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, whose voice, wit, and generosity shaped American culture for six decades, died on August 25th, 2026, at her home in Nashville at the age of 80. Born in rural Pittman Center, Tennessee, Parton rose from poverty to become the queen of country, selling more than 100 million records and writing over 3,000 songs, including classics such as Jolene, Code of Many Colors, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You. She released 49 studio albums, earned 11 Grammy Awards, 3 Emmys, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. Her film career included beloved roles in 9 to 5, Steel Magnolia's, The Best Little Horror House in Texas, and Joyful Noise. On TV, she appeared in Hannah, Montana, Grace and Frankie, and produced award-winning projects such as Christmas on the Square. Hardin's Philanthropy became as iconic as her music through the Dollywood Foundation and Imagination Library. She provided millions of free books to children worldwide. She supported healthcare, disaster relief, LGBTQ rights, and funded early research to help develop the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Her Dollywood theme park remains one of America's most visited seasonal attractions. In her final years, Barton continued recording, collaborating, and making public appearances, including a keynote at Dollywood's 41st anniversary and the opening of a Tennessee travel stop named in her honor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Dean, and is survived by her extended family and millions of fans, whose lives she touched through her art, humor, and boundless generosity. Dolly Parton's legacy, musical, cultural, and humanitarian, will endure for generations. Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80.

Remembering Peter Cullen

Finally, tonight, Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen, best known as the voice of Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, has passed away at the age of 85 as home in Los Angeles. His career spans six decades across animation, film, TV, video games, and radio. According to his death certificate obtained by People Magazine, Cullen died from cardiac arrest. Respiratory arrest was listed as the underlying cause of death, while cerebral metasis, hypoxia, and COPD, as well as hypertension and hyperliblidaemia, were also listed among the conditions that contributed to his death. His family shared that he passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, encouraged fans to honor his legacy through compassion, integrity, and gentle strength. A graduate of Montreal's National Theater School, Colin performed in radio sketch, comedy, and live-action TV before finding widespread acclaim in voice acting. He originated the role of Optimus Prime in the 1984 animated series Transformers, shaping the character's iconic moral core around his brother's advice that real heroes should be strong enough to be gentle. Unquote. Fan backlash over Prime's death in the 1986 animated movie led to the character being resurrected in 1987. Cullen returned to voice Optimus Prime in Michael Bay's live-action film franchise, starting in 2007, and continuing voicing the character through 2023. He also voiced his additional vocal performances, including portraying Ironhide, Streetwise, Wingspan, Slug Slinger, and Nightstick. His other noble voice roles include Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, Carr on Night Rider, King Kong in 1976, Vengar in Dungeons ⁇ Dragons, Koran in Voltron, and Mario in The Saturday Supercade. He also created the signature vocalizations for the character in Predators. Fans will have a final opportunity to hear his beloved character, Optus Prime, in Optus Prime Awakening, a new 12-minute animated short. This special film will be shown alongside the 40th anniversary theatrical re-release of Transformers, the movie, playing nationwide from September 17th to October 1st. Beyond screen entertainment, Cullen performed voiceover work for theme parks, attractions, music projects, and collaborated with NASA on the Optimus Prime spin-off award to encourage youth involvement in STEM. Again, Peter Cullen, silenced at the age of 85.
