Marvel

The spinoff of Hawkeye, Echo will bring back not only Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, but Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. Kingpin will be the guardian of Echo aka Maya Lopez, however he killed her father. In Echo, Maya returns to New York as a gang leader and reconnects with her Native American roots.

Ironheart has added Alden Ehrenreich from Star Wars Solo to the cast. What the role will be is unknown. The series will follow Riri (Thorne), a teenage girl and genius inventor who goes on to create the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.

Marvel is celebrating the sixtieth version of Spider-man with the “Beyond Amazin” global campaign. The campaign is filled with product offerings, pop-up experiences, special variant covers, fan events, an exhibit at San Diego Comic-Con, video game releases, and more. Over on the publishing side, expect to find a new Spider-Man series from iconic creators Dan Slott and Mark Bagley, along with a new Spider-Verse event that promises to mark the end of the web-slinger's multiverse saga.Spider-Man's "Beyond Amazing" campaign runs through December and features offerings from global lifestyle brand Kith, "Beyond Amazing" variant cover program highlighting key moments from Spidey's history across comics and other media, "Marvel's Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition" at San Diego Comic-Con, and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales launching on PC for the first time. Marvel has collaborated with global lifestyle brand, Kith, on a new collection that pays homage to the six decades of the Marvel Super Hero, interpreted through the Kith lens. The collection will be available beginning July 15, and features an assortment of specially designed apparel inspired by the iconic wall-crawler, including intarsia knit sweaters, 400 GSM cotton fleece hoodies, and a range of vintage washed long sleeve and short sleeve tees. As a part of the launch, fans can experience and shop the collection at the Kith for Marvel Spider-Man Pop-Up on July 15 – July 17 in the character's hometown of Queens, NY. The collection will also be available at Kith's Aspen, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Miami, Paris and Tokyo locations, as well as in shop-in-shops at Selfridges, Bergdorf Goodman and Hirshleifers.

In addition to Kith, new "Beyond Amazing" products will launch throughout the remainder of 2022 from licensees including Hasbro, Funko, the LEGO Group, Jazwares, PEZ Candy, Mad Engine, C-Life, Jay Franco, Bioworld, Citizen, and Adidas to name a few. Showing the reach of this beloved and aspirational character, collections will be broadly available at top retailers nationwide and around the globe.

Marvel is introducing the first gay Spider-man in Edge of Spider-verse number five, they introduced Web Weaver.  Created by Steve Foxe and Kris Anka, Web-Weaver is billed as "a not-so-mild fashion designer at Van Dyne '', who will "show us a very different kind of Spider-Slayer" once he gets powers. While details surrounding Spider-Slayer's civilian identity remain a mystery, Foxe took to Twitter to tease that the character will be a unique step in terms of LGBTQ+ representation.

"Something I realized immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can't--and shouldn't--represent ALL gay men," Foxe wrote. "No single character can. His fearlessly femme identity is central to who he is, but it's not the STORY...which you can experience for yourself in September!"

Daniel Kaluuya will not be in the Black Panther sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Rotten Tomatoes was first to report the news.

Kaluuya, who will soon be seen in the Jordan Peele thriller Nope, played W’Kabi, the best friend to T’Challa/Black Panther and the husband of Okoye, played by Danai Gurira, who is expected to return for the sequel, Wakanda Forever.

Kaluuya told Rotten Tomatoes that he had to back out due to scheduling conflicts with Peele’s movie, which is due out in theaters this month.

The Black Panther 2 shoot was plagued by setbacks after star Chadwick Boseman died of colon cancer in August 2020, with Marvel and the filmmakers having to reconceive the project. The movie was further delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, including several stars testing positive for COVID on set. In August 2021, star Letitia Wright suffered an injury while filming a sequence involving a stunt rig on location in Boston. Production then shut down in late November after the Wakanda Forever team filmed as much as they could without Wright, while she continued to heal at her home in London.

Wright — who expressed anti-COVID vaccine sentiments, raising concerns about her return after the CDC implemented rules requiring all non-immigrant and non-citizen air travelers to the U.S. to be fully vaccinated — eventually returned to the Atlanta set and filming resumed in January. At the time, it was reported that M’Baku actor Winston Duke was taking on an expanded role in the Panther mythos.

As of now, Wakanda Forever is still dated for Nov. 11, 2022.

DC

The Flash’s Danielle Panabaker has announced the birth of her second child. She announced via social media with a pic of herself holding baby socks, she didn’t announce the name or gender of the child or exactly when the child was born but she did write quote "Baby is health{y} [and] happy and we're basking in all the love." unquote Panabaker announced the pregnancy back in January.

MultiVersus the Warner Bros Super Smash Bros type game will be coming out in open beta on July 26th. This MultiVersus open beta will be available on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as on the PC platform with full cross-play and cross-progression support. Best of all for those who want to take part, the open beta will be free to play, too.

For those who want to play before everyone else during the early access period, you'll automatically be invited if you were part of the closed alpha which took place previously. If you didn't but still want a shot at some early brawls, you can perhaps score access through Twitch Drops. That only requires you to watch 60 minutes of MultiVersus gameplay after the early access period begins on July 19th, and while an hour may seem like a long time to watch, it's not much in comparison to some other games' Twitch Drops.

George Clooney’s Batman suit, ya know the one with the Bat Nipples is up for auction. Heritage Auctions has listed the Batsuit from Batman and Robin at $40,000.  Heritage Auctions executive vice president Joe Maddalena wrote in his statement. "This is easily the most famous – and infamous – Batman costume ever designed, as evidenced by the fact that all these years later, it continues to make headlines every time Tim Burton and George Clooney get asked about it," "But to his credit, Joel Schumacher never apologized for the 'Bat-nipples.' In fact, he once told Vice, 'I'm still glad we did it.' And I am just as glad we have the chance now to offer this piece of cinema history to someone who can appreciate the costume as much as Schumacher clearly did."

Star Trek

It’s become all quiet in Star Trek programming since Strange New Worlds had their season finale (so in the meantime head on over and watch The ORville New Horizons during this down time. ) SO what’s next? The third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks will come out on August twenty fifth. Paramount Plus released the date and a poster with homage to Star Trek III The Search for Spock’s movie poster. The new season "challenges the U.S.S. Cerritos ensigns in (hilarious) ways they could never imagine, starting with a shocking resolution for season two's epic cliffhanger finale."

So what change is coming up for the Lower Decks crew? Executive producer Mike McMahan told Looper in an interview that quote

[On Rutherford]: You’ll be learning more about the backstory of how he got [the implant] this season in a really fun way.

[On Tendi]: She’s got this new gig, which is instead of being full medical, she’s been swapped over into senior science officer training.

[On Boimler]: Season 3 sees Boimler taking this different path where he becomes a little bit more confident, our Boimler. It earns him some respect, but it also takes him into some tough spots too.

Will Discovery go seven seasons or will it continue on past that. Currently they’re working on season five and star Soniqua Martin Green told Radio Times quote "Well, the show is definitely rolling forward, thankfully," Martin-Green tells Radio Times. "There haven't been talks about the endgame yet. We talk a lot about things that we still want to see, or at least they share with me ideas that they have. I talk about things that I would like to see, not just with Burnham but with others and with the story as a whole. There is forward-thinking, absolutely, and there's foresight being applied, absolutely. But thankfully, we're not having endgame conversations yet."

Star Wars

Gremlins director Joe Dante doesn[t think much of Grogu from the Mandalorian. IN fact he thinks the little green guy is too much like the Mogwai from his 1984 movie Gremlins.

Telling the San Francisco Chronicle quote "I think the longevity of [the Gremlins films] is really key to this one character [Gizmo], who is essentially like a baby," Dante shared with the San Francisco Chronicle. "Which brings me, of course, to the subject of Baby Yoda, who is completely stolen and is just out-and-out copied. Shamelessly, I would think." unquote

Well, let's see both are short with big eyes and big ears. However one is green, one is fuzzy, one is a muppet base and the other isn’t. I think they’re similar, but it’s definitely not a copy.

One of the next Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew has started production. The show was first announced at this year's Star Wars Day. What is known about it, is that Spider-Man Home Trilogy director Jon Watts will be shaping it; and that Jude Law will be starring in it. We do know that it is quote "a story about a group of kids, about 10 years old, from a tiny little planet who accidentally get lost in the Star Wars galaxy. And it's the story of their journey trying to find their way home... We liked the idea of using kids to give you a different perspective and see the galaxy through a different pair of eyes."

Lilo and Stitch is getting a live-action remake. The remake will be made by Dean Fleischer Camp, the filmmaker behind indie darling Marcel the Shell With Shoes On.

Chris Kekaniokalani Bright is in final negotiations to pen the script.

The move gets the project, which will be a tentpole feature for Disney+, back into the water. Stitch was first thrown into development back in 2018 with up-and-comer Mike Van Waes writing the screenplay. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing.

Lilo is intended to be a live-action/CG hybrid, a form that Fleischer Camp has a proven facility with.

Warner Bros Salem’s Lot movie adaptation has been pushed back. The movie has been moved back to April 21st, 2023. Veteran horror scribe Gary Dauberman, known for writing the It films and helming Annabelle Comes Home, is directing a cast that includes Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, Bill Camp, Jordan Preston Carter, and  Pilou Asbaek.

King published Salem’s Lot in 1975. The book centers on an author who returns to his hometown only to discover townspeople are slowly being turned into vampires.

Souheila Yacoub has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Dune: Part Two. Yacoub will join the all-star ensemble that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Josh Brolin, who are expected to reprise their roles, as well Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Austin Butler, who were also recently announced. Denis Villeneuve is back to write, direct and produce. Jon Spaihts will return to co-write with Villeneuve. Yacoub will play Shishakli.

Legendary had no comment. Production is expected to start in the fall, with the film set to bow on October 20, 2023.

Beavis and Butt-Head are back. Paramount+ has set an August premiere date for Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, and also released the official trailer for the new adult animated series. It will launch on the service Thursday, August 4 in the U.S. and will also be available to stream internationally in all territories where the service is available.

Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head comes on the heels of the recently released Paramount+ original film Beavis and Butt-Head Do The Universe, which is currently streaming.

Actor Steven Yeun and director Bong Joon Ho are reuniting for Ho’s new sci-fi thriller from Warner Bros. The movie as yet untitled is based on Mickey7 a novel by author Edward Ashton and  is described as Andy Weir's The Martian meets Blake Crouch’s Dark Matter. It centers on Mickey7, a man on an expedition to colonize the ice world Niflheim. This expendable employee takes jobs too risky for anyone else, and when he dies, he regenerates as a clone with most of his memories intact. When Mickey7 is presumed dead, he returns to the mission’s base only to see that a new clone, Mickey8, has taken his place.Yeun will join the cast that includes Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette.

Joe Pera will talk with you no more. The series, Joe Pera Talks with You will come to an end on Adult Swim. The 11-minute series launched in 2018 started as an animated short, followed by a live-action short. Its third season aired between November and December 2021.

It follows the mild-mannered Pera as a fictional version of himself, living in Michigan and teaching choir at a middle school. The lo-fi series sees him talk to the audience – Mr Rogers- style about mundane subjects such as breakfast and ironing.

Pat McCallum, the co-founder and longtime editor-in-chief of Wizard magazine, has passed away. During his time at Wizard, McCallum was well-liked not just among the staff, but among comics industry professionals as well -- which was not always the case with Wizard staffers, given the magazine's larger-than-life personality and reputation. Later, McCallum established himself as a source of calm among the often-chaotic DC editorial staff.

Gareb Shamus, who co-founded Wizard with McCallum in 1991, wrote online that McCallum was "one of the most creative and imaginative people I have ever known. We connected recently and shared some funny stories and hoped we could more. We all created so much magic together." He called  McCallum's death "hard to process."

In 1991, McCallum worked at a comic shop owned by Shamus's parents, and was responsible for the shop's in-store newsletter. Soon, he and Shamus decided to publish it as a magazine available for purchase to the general public, and Wizard was born. The magazine was a cultural juggernaut in the 1990s, outselling almost every comic book it reported on and becoming the main source for fanboy news in the years immediately preceding the modern internet.

Among the features McCallum created or championed was Twisted Mego Theatre -- later Twisted Toyfare Theatre, replacing the brand name of the toys it featured with that of Wizard's toy-centered spinoff magazine. That feature served as the inspiration for the long-running Adult Swim series Robot Chicken.

Actor Larry Storch has passed away. The actor was best known for the goofy Corporal Agarn on the classic tv series F Troop. F Troop only lasted for two seasons, but would become a cult classic in reruns.  As Agarn, Storch was the wild-eyed partner and protege of Forrest Tucker's wily Sgt. O'Rourke, who often schemed with Frank DeKova's Chief Wild Eagle to fleece unsuspecting visitors. Ken Berry's Capt. Parmenter was Fort Courage's clueless commander.

Storch's credits included "Funny Valentine," "Sweet 16," "Sex and the Single Girl," "S.O.B.," "Airport," "Treasure Island" and "Oliver Twist." On TV, he guest-starred on such shows as "Married... With Children," "Archie Bunker's Place," "Trapper John, M.D.," "Fantasy Island," CHiPS," "The Love Boat," "Get Smart," "Love American Style," "Gilligan's Island" and "Car 54 Where Are You?"

His many theater appearances ranged from a brutal detective in a 1983 Broadway revival of "Porgy and Bess" to Chief Sitting Bull in the 2000 revival of "Annie Get Your Gun" with Reba McEntire.

Storch served in the Navy in World War II

Larry Storch died of natural causes in his New York apartment on July ninth, he was 99 years old.

Composer Monty Norman passed away on July 11th, 2022 after a short illness. Norman most famously composed the score for “Dr. No,” the 1962 James Bond film starring Sean Connery. His theme for James Bond, as arranged by fellow Englishman John Barry, would go on to become the theme for the entire franchise.

Norman wrote the songs heard on the “Dr. No” soundtrack, including “Under the Mango Tree,” which Ursula Andress sings as  she emerges from the ocean to see Connery for the first time. He also wrote “Kingston Calypso” and “Jump Up” on location. The James Bond Theme would only emerge months later as Norman struggled to write the dramatic score later in London.

As he often later said, he adapted a tune he’d written for an unproduced musical based on V.S. Naipaul’s “A House for Mr. Biswas.” The song “Bad Sign, Good Sign” (which he sang on an album many years later with sitar accompaniment) contained the seeds of the Bond theme.

Barry became involved when the filmmakers, including director Terence Young and editor Peter Hunt, felt they needed a harder-hitting, commercially viable theme than they heard at the score recording sessions. Barry came in, beefed up the arrangement to incorporate a twangy guitar (from his John Barry Seven rock ‘n’ roll days) and a jazzy midsection, and recorded a fresh, exciting version of the Bond Theme that became a hit single in England after the movie’s release in the fall of 1962.

Barry took over musical direction on the Bond films starting with the second one, “From Russia With Love,” in 1963. Norman was never asked back, although his theme continued to be used as 007’s musical signature in every subsequent film. He won England’s prestigious Ivor Novello Award from the Performing Rights Society in 1977 for the theme, which now ranks as one of the most recognized pieces of movie music ever.

Norman is survived by his second wife Rina and a daughter. Monty Norman was 94 years old.

Actor Tony Sirico has passed away. Tony is best known for playing mobster Peter Paul Paulie Walnuts Gualtieri on HBO’s THe Sopranos. Sirico’s Paulie Walnuts, an over the top and funny foot soldier to James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano with one-liners like no one else, was a “Sopranos” scene-stealer from the start. Sirico balanced Paulie’s menace with his deadpan humor, and his penchant for malapropisms, once calling Sun Tzu “Sun Tuh-Zoo,” later referring to the philosopher as the “Chinese Prince Matchabelli.” Sirico appeared on all six seasons of “The Sopranos,” after he initially auditioned for the role of Uncle Junior.  He was arrested 28 times before getting into acting starting at age seven.

He made his acting debut as an extra in the 1974 mobster drama “Crazy Joe” alongside Henry Winkler. That film preceded Sirico’s countless later roles as gangsters and criminals, from Martin Scorsese’s “Goodfellas” in 1990 to Woody Allen’s “Bullets Over Broadway” in 1994. Sirico appeared in a number of Allen’s films, including “Café Society” in 2016 and “Mighty Aphrodite” in 1995. In 2013, he had an arc on Family Guy as the replacement dog for Brian, Vinny. Sirico is survived by his two children, Joanne Sirico Bello and Richard Sirico, as well as grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Tony Sirico was 79 years old.

Also passed is James Caan. Caan is best known for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.

Caan almost didn’t get to play the part that would become his signature role. Paramount originally cast him as younger brother Michael and Carmine Caridi as Sonny. But Coppola, who had directed Caan in The Rain People (1969), insisted that only he could do justice to the character.

Caan also acted in movies like The Gambler, Rollerball, Silent Movie, Alien Nation, Dick Tracy, Misery, Elf, Get Smart, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and its sequel. And tv shows like Get Smart, The SImpsons, Newsradio, Family Guy, and Haraii Five O. He was nominated for a Golden Globe, An Emmy, And The Academy Award. But only ever won A Saturn Award for the movie Rollerball.

James Caan was 82 years old.
