Bob’s Burgers movie review

Star Trek

Star Trek Strange New Worlds debuted as  the HIghest rated Star Trek series ever on Rotten Tomatoes with a perfect 100 score on the Tomatometer. Following that is Prodigy with a 93%, Deep Space Nine and The Next Generation with a 91%, Discovery and Picard both had 86%, Lower Decks has an 83%, The original series has an 80%, Voyager has a76% and Enterprise has a 55%.

Star Trek Picards Third Season will definitely be all new and all different as four cast members have exited the show ahead of season three. Alison Pill, not coming back, was rather obvious in the final episode as well as Santago Cabrera. But Isa Briones and Evan Evagora have confirmed via their respective Instagrams that they also have said goodbye to their roles in the final season. THe only two actors continuing on to join the cast of the Next Generation will be Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd.

And while we wait for season three, we will get a new Picard story courtesy of IDW Comics Star Trek: Picard -- Stargazer, a new miniseries taking place after Picard's second season. Picard co-creator Kirsten Beyer re-teams with veteran Star Trek comics writer Mike Johnson (the same duo who wrote the Star Trek: Picard -- No Man's Land audio drama in the gap between the show's first two seasons ) to write the series. Star Trek comics staple Angel Hernandez draws the three-issue tale, which sees Jean-Luc Picard back aboard the ship that bears his first command's name, the USS Stargazer. Here's the synopsis for the first issue:

Embark on a never-before-seen journey set between seasons two and three of the Paramount+ hit series Star Trek: Picard! After a tantalizing offer to return among the stars arises, Captain Jean Luc-Picard takes to the bridge of the USS Stargazer. But when trouble rears its head on a once peaceful, pre-warp planet from his past, Picard enlists the help of an old friend.

Cristobal Rios had been in command of the USS Stargazer when Picard's second season began. However, with Rios choosing to stay in the past in Picard's second season finale, the ship is without a captain unless Starfleet decides to make Picard's field commission of Seven of Nine permanent, and Seven chooses to accept. But for this mission, it sounds like Jean-Luc himself is once again in command of the Stargazer.

A new game based on Star Trek Prodigy has been revealed. Star Trek Prodigy Supernova comes from publisher Outright Games and developer Tessera Studios and will be released for the PS5, PS4, Xbox series x, Xbox Series S Xbox One Nintendo Switch, and PC as well as Google Stadia on October fourteenth THe official game description reads quote

"After the Protostar picks up strange readings from a dying star, Dal R'El and Gwyndala race against time to save their friends, their ship, new alien species and an entire planetary system before a supernova destroys them all!" "When the Protostar's malfunctioning transporter scatters the crew across three alien planets, Dal and Gwyn must use their wits and skills to overcome ingenious puzzles, endure hostile environments and battle deadly robot armies to rescue Jankom Pog, Rok-Tahk, Zero, and Murf. But as they search for their friends, they soon discover a sinister and deadly new enemy, one that will stop at nothing to destroy the Protostar and change the very course of history!"

Star Wars

Ewan McGregor had to practice to once again sound like Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi, the actor who last acted the role physically back in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith did do vocal cameos for THe Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker, but he was out of practice by the time of the screen test telling on Demand Entertainment quote "When we came to do the actual scenes, I totally didn't have his voice,"  "I was just doing this vague, English voice, it sounded like a sort of school teacher or something. But it sadly didn't sound like Alec Guinness, and it didn't sound like Obi-Wan." "It just had been so long, I didn't have it," "But it was quite good that we got to do it and I got to realize that then (laughs). Seven months later, when we came to start shooting, I had done my homework and I'd listened to a lot of Alec Guinness, and now he's back."

Hayden Christensen, who is back in the black for the Obi-Wan Disney Plus series shared Darth Vader's motivation for hunting down the remaining Jedi. Tell The Cutaway with William Mullally quote "This is sort of a point in the timeline that hasn't really been explored yet, and I think that the character of Darth Vader is at an interesting point in his life, in terms of what has happened before and where we left him in Episode III,"  "He's very much sort of trying to reconcile his past, and hunting down the Jedi... obviously it's his job and he's mandated by the Emperor, but it's more than that. It's a personal mission for him."

Production has begun on the Ahsoka series, the announcement came from Disney Plus

Ahsoka Tano was the padawan of Jedi Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars era of the Star Wars Prequels – but the two had a major falling out that shattered Ahsoka's faith in the Jedi Order. Ahsoka chose to follow her own path as the Clone Wars ended; she helped free Mandalore from Darth Maul's grip, and barely survived Order 66. After years in hiding, Ahsoka assisted the Rebel Alliance in its formative days and even dueled Darth Vader during a pivotal mission. Rebels ended with Ahsoka and others facing the maniacal threat of Grand Admiral Thrawn – a war that ended with Thrawn and Ahsoka's friend and Jedi-in-training Ezra Bridger being lost in the unknown regions of space. As we saw during Ahsoka's live-action debut in The Mandalorian Season 2, she is still very much hunting for Thrawn – and subsequently, Ezra. She was played by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian.

By the way Happy belated birthday to Ahsoka star Rosario Dawson, she turned 42 back on the ninth and she shared a pin that the crew on the show made for her on her Instagram. The pin reads “HAppy  Birthday Snips!”. Snips was Anakin’s nickname for the character in the Clone Wars, Rosarion added quote "I've been so blessed with the best crews...! Go team AHSOKA! Thank you for an amazing birthday! ❤️‍🔥”

Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film will be a self-contained story based in the Star Wars Galaxy according to writer Michael Waldron, in an interview with Variety the writer said quote “We’re finally into it in earnest. I mean, I’m writing away,” he shared. “It’s a lot of fun. I’m enjoying having the freedom on that to do something that’s not necessarily a sequel or anything. It maybe has a little bit less of a — it just doesn’t have a bunch of TV shows and movies that you’re servicing on top of it, the way I did with Doctor Strange. So it’s nice. It feels like a different exercise.” unquote

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy said that the franchise is moving on from the Skywalker Saga and that they’ll be moving around the timeline of Star Wars to explore other eras like the upcoming series The Acolyte, Kennedy told them quote "(The Acolyte) sits right on the edge of the High Republic Era. It's a bit of an experiment for us because it isn't building within the timeline and the era that Jon (Favreau) and Dave (Filoni) are. It isn't necessarily going to be where features are. We are moving into a new era with what [showrunner] Leslye Headland is doing. There are certainly reflections of things that people are going to recognize, and it will have connectivity in Star Wars. But this will be a whole new [era] of storytelling if we determine like we did with The Mandalorian-that it works and that there's interest. I think there will be." unquote The next question in the interview was with regard to getting "outside the gravity of the Skywalker saga," something that Kennedy said is "vital," adding: quote "Just staying within the construct of George's storytelling, to keep chipping away at that, I think would be wrong. It's our job to step away now, but still, have a connection to the mythology that George created. That won't stop. But we are moving on from the Skywalker saga. That's what's taking a lot of time, discussion, and thought right now."

She also said that they consider the publishing side of the company to be a testbed for the new eras they will explore on tv and in movies.

As the defamation war trial between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has entered another week and Amber Heard is swearing that her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was reduced due to her war of words with Depp. She testified quote "I fought really hard to stay in the movie. They didn't want to include me in the film," adding that she did film some scenes for the movie but quote "A very pared-down version of that role, yes." "I was given a script," she added. "Then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoilers away. Two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in damages, alleging she defamed him in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in theaters on March 17, 2023.

Marvel

Marvel and Dan Slott are ending the Spider-Verse. Writer Dan Slott is returning to the Spider-Man office for Edge of Spider-Verse, a five-issue miniseries debuting in August that will bring the Spider-Verse saga to a cataclysmic conclusion later this year in The End of Spider-Verse. Slott will team with a team of writers and artists on Edge of Spider-Verse, introducing all-new versions of the web-slinger from across the Spider-Verse. Other fan-favorite Spider-Heroes will also be featured in the stories, including Araña, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Gwen, and Spider-Man: India. Each issue will contain three stories with debuts, new status quos, and more seeds for an overarching new saga that will state THE END OF SPIDER-VERSE. Edge of Spider-verse #1 comes out on August third, with the other two issues coming out in the following two weeks.

Taika Waititi is describing Thor Love and Thunder as a bit of a Midlife Crisis for the God of Thunder. IN a new interview in Entertainment Weekly. Taika told the magazine quote "What I didn't want to do is just make Ragnarok again, because that's been done,"  "I needed to do something more interesting for myself to keep the whole thing ignited and to make sure that I'm feeling creatively stimulated. I thought, What's the least expected thing with this franchise?"

"Ragnarok felt a bit like a party," Waititi explains. "It was quite festive. This one is still fun, and it's got moments of being over the top, but thematically, it's about something a bit deeper than the last film. It's not a serious film, and it's not a drama, but we do deal with ideas that I think a lot of humans deal with — universal themes about love and loss and our place in the world. Everyone sort of asks this question in the film: What is your purpose? What is the reason that you're a hero, and what do you do when you have these powers?""It's sort of like a midlife crisis film, really," Waititi adds. "That's the question we ask everyone: Are we doing the right thing, and are we doing all we can in the world? I think right now, while the world is still healing from this pandemic, it's a good question to ask. It's like, well, are we doing enough to look after each other and to look after ourselves?" He also praised Christian Bale’s performance as Gorr the God Butcher and said that Russell Crowe’s Zeus will see Crowe quote “a way you've never seen Russell before." "I consider Russell a friend, and I forget that there are some friends I have who are really incredible at what they do," Waititi says with a laugh. "When I was on set with Russell, I was like, 'Oh shit, that's right! You're Russell Crowe! You're a really amazing actor!'" Thor Love and Thunder arrives on July eighth.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed that a Disney Plus price increase could be coming sooner rather than later. He told listeners on the investor call quote "As you know, we launched with an extremely attractive opening price point on Disney plus, and we've been very comfortable with the price value relationship that we've offered," Chapek began. "And as you know, as we increase our content investment, we believe that that's going to give us the ability to adjust our price by wind still, at the same time maintain that strong value. Proposition. You mentioned that Disney plus ads tier. I think this is going to give us the ability to reach an even more broad audience as we expand Disney plus, across multiple price points."

"And using some of our other services we can see the additive nature of an ad-driven service that enables us to keep the price lower," "Of course, that's made up for by the additional revenue that we will get per user on the advertising spending. So we believe that we can, you know, sort of move up and cascade up our net price over time given the tremendous value that we started with, and the increased price-value relationship, all of all the new content, but we're pretty bullish. about that." unquote

The reboot of Babylon 5 is still alive according to CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz, During the network’s upfronts press call Pedowitz said quote “It is very much in active development, I personally spoke with Straczynski back when we picked up the pilot,” Pedowitz said during the network’s pre-upfront press call. “I’m a huge fan of Babylon 5, on a personal basis, I’ve seen every episode of the series. I’ve known Joe for a long, long time. I’d love to bring back that story in some shape or form, I think it’s perfect for the CW.” The new version for the CW, which Straczynski is writing and exec producing, has been described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the praised 1990s series by Warner Bros. Television. The new version would follow John Sheridan, an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space.

The Boys spinoff has added Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi. While not confirmed, reports are indicating that Schwarzenegger is playing Golden Boy, a character who was previously teased in the in-universe "Seven on 7" series of web shorts. Meanwhile, Thomas is reportedly playing Polarity, and Pigossi will play Dr. Cardosa.

James Scott McKnight, the former Chief Creative Officer at JK Rowling's Wizarding World has created a new fantasy sci-fi franchise. The Invisible Lights is set in a world that is connected through a portal to another world – Light – that has four continents that are divided through weather and each of these continents are connected to another world. However, these portals went away and went off in their own direction – this story reconnects these worlds and looks at how they have changed.

The main character is 18-year Elliott, who goes through tragedy at the beginning of the story, when his mother, the only person he knows, dies in a car crash. He soon finds out a huge amount about himself and ends up in a big investigation, led by a private investigator that had previously been working with his mother. It becomes a journey of discovery for Elliott, who is a bit of an introvert from San Francisco, and this entire world.

Part of the story involves a graphic novel, which features a mythical tale that Elliott thinks is fiction. While he had never met anyone who read the comic in one world, he soon discovers that it has become a symbol of rebellion for kids that grew up in the other world.

Similarly, while the story is focusing on the action in one world, a podcast is planned to tell stories that are happening concurrently in the other world. McKnight has signed with UTA, which is working with him to develop the project and he will start pitching this world at the start of June.

A Dungeons & Dragons documentary is in the works from XTR. THe doc is called Role Players and is billed as the definitive documentary on the game. It boasts never before seen archival footage and interviews with celebrity D&D fanatics and will tell the game origin story from the beginning to the cult-like devotion of its players exploring the power living in a fantasy world can have on real humans. The feature is being made by director Morgan Jon Fox (The One You Never Forget) and producer Ted Speaker (Sword of Trust). Bryn Mooser, Kathryn Everett, Justin Lacob, and Abazar Khayami are executive producing for XTR.

Republican Lawmakers still have a bone to pick with Disney, following the boneheaded move of stripping Disney World of its self governing privileges. Now Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has proposed legislation that limits copyright protection to 56 years. According to the Copyright Clause Restoration Act of 2022, the law would retroactively apply to existing copyrights.

Amazon has renewed the sci-fi comedy series Upload for a third season. In A statement Amazon Head of Global TV Vernon Sanders said quote “Upload has become a bona fide hit that continues to be one of the most watched comedy originals on Prime Video,” “The series continues to connect and provoke endless possibilities for the future of technology and humanity. With Greg’s distinct comedic take along with the dynamic creative team and talented actors, they’ve made a globally relevant series which we’re all incredibly proud to bring back another season for our customers.” The second season of the comedy, which is set in the “technologically advanced future where hologram phones, 3D food printers, and automated grocery stores are the norm,” premiered on March 11.

20th Century Studios is moving forward on a prequel to the 1976 film The Omen, currently titled "The First Omen." The picture is set to come from Legion and Briarpatch episodic director Arkasha Stevenson, who will be making her feature-film directing debut. Stevenson will be collaborating with writing partner Tim Smith to rewrite the current version of the script.

The DVD Dispensing Redbox is set to be acquired by Chicken Soup For The Soul Entertainment, which also owns the streaming service Crackle. The deal, worth 375 million is mostly just the assumption of Redbox’s debt. Founded in the heyday of DVDs two decades ago, Redbox is best known for its network of 38,000 bright red, disk-dispensing kiosks at convenience and grocery stores. It has more recently expanded into streaming and production. It went public last fall in a $693 million SPAC merger with Seaport Global Acquisition Corp. The stock initially rose past $15 a share but has hit the rocks in recent months, dipping as low as $1.61. The company was forced to lay off 10% of its staff and said it was looking at strategic alternatives.  In addition to Crackle, which it acquired from Sony in 2020, Chicken Soup for the Soul operates an eponymous service that launched last fall as well as Popcornflix. The company has also bought content outfits like Screen Media, 1091 Pictures, and Sonar Entertainment over the past few years. The transaction, which has been approved by the boards of directors of both companies, calls for Redbox stockholders to get a fixed exchange ratio of 0.087 of a share of Class A common stock of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment per Redbox share. After the close of the deal, which is expected in the second half of 2022, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment stockholders will own about 76.5% of the combined company. Redbox stockholders will own roughly 23.5% of it. The company will continue to trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol CSSE.

It looks like more Ghostbusters movies are in the works, Deadline spoke with Sony Chairman Tom Rothman if more were in the works and he said quote Yes, we will. We have plenty of franchise universes with which to operate in, but since I have Deadline here, I want to say, and please include this, OK? Everyone will say, yeah you did $3 billion but it’s all sequels and superheroes. It was not all that. There was Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Little Women. This summer, we’ve got Bullet Train, from David Leitch, with Brad Pitt, a pure original, R-rated rock ‘em, sock ‘em action movie for grownups.
